They learn what flying is, and soon they can soar through the sky on their own wings. After a few such lessons, the little eaglets learn to copy her wing movements in the air. Then she swoops down under them, bears them up on her outstretched wings, and carries them back to safety. She hovers over them as they begin to fall through the air. When it is time for the eaglets to learn to fly, the mother stirs up the nest, disturbing her little birds into leaving it.These large nests are built high and inaccessible, like in the rocks of a high mountain or on top of a tall tree. Then she carries it back to her nest, tears it apart, and shares it with her eaglets.
She swoops down from the sky and seizes and kills the prey. An eagle has very keen eyesight, enabling her to see her prey from hundreds of feet in the air.His bill enables him to tear the flesh of his prey when it is too big to swallow whole. An eagle’s feet are well suited for grabbing hold of a small animal and carrying it high into the sky. All four claws of each foot are sharp and curved. But all eagles have large, strong bills and powerful claws (talons). Different species of eagles vary from each other in size, looks, and habits. It is one of the largest birds and is very strong. A eagle is a bird of prey – a flesh eater.We were made to turn to Him – to acknowledge our weakness and experience His power, the power that lifts us, no matter what our circumstances, and enables us to soar on wings like eagles in His strength.Riding on the Wings of an Eagle Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. He wants us to fly higher than the rest and live in high places because he created us in his image. He wants us to be majestic, powerful, graceful, peaceful, patient, and confident. We were not created to battle on in our own strength, desperately running and never quite making it, feeling increasingly overwhelmed and on the verge of defeat. This is the bird that God created with his characteristics that he hopes for us. Whether it’s pride or stubbornness, forgetfulness, or merely force of habit, it’s not the way we are meant to live. I have the assurance that “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NLT).I have a God who promises “power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” (Isaiah 40:29 NLT).I have the Holy Spirit – a Spirit of “power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT).I have God’s power – “the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead.” (Ephesians 3:19-20 NLT).I have access to soar on wings like eagles!
In my panic, I work frantically, trying to sort everything out, trying to make it right, trying to fix it by myself, thinking that it all depends on me – all the time forgetting the fact that I have a much greater power at my disposal. We Have Access To Soar on Wings Like EaglesĪ difficult circumstance arises, and I try to work my way out of it. Good question! But I have to be honest- sometimes I can be just like that bird. Then, at last, it was as if the penny dropped, and it remembered it had a greater power available to it than just the speed of its running.Īs the bird finally soared off safely into the sky, my friend remarked, “Why do things with feet and wings try to use the feet first?” It was funny to watch, and we wondered how long it would be before it realized. It was a short distance off, but right in our path.Įxpecting the bird to move, we continued to head towards it slowly, but it just continued to stand there happily in the middle of the road, unaware of the approaching danger – completely oblivious.īy this point, we were getting pretty close, so my friend slowed the car some more, and finally, the bird noticed us, but here’s the part we were not expecting…įor the next thirty seconds or so we rode along behind the bird, which was increasingly panicking, running as fast as its legs would carry it. He had noticed a bird just ahead of us, standing in the middle of the road.
